An American dramedy, “Californication” revolves around Hank Moody (David Duchovny)… a famed novelist haggled by personal demons. Since he moved to Los Angeles, his life has been a roller coaster of ups and downs. Beginning with “A Crazy Little Thing Called Love”, Hollywood’s crappy adaptation of his prized novel “God Hates Us All”, trouble flooded into a place: a terrible case of writer’s block, major plagiarism and dependence on alcohol, available drugs and sex.
However, Hank gets back on track when he meets Lew Ashby, world-famous record producer who commissions him to write his biography. What does fortune send him this time? His book subject overdoses leaving him scrambling once again. Now, trying to resist temptations and show his family that he can be a responsible and caring father, Hank starts afresh as the new writing professor at a local university… at least apparently.
Among Californication’s other main characters rank Karen van der Beek (Natascha McElhone), Rebecca “Becca” Moody (Madeleine Martin), Charlie Runkle (Evan Handler) and Marcy Runkle (Pamela Adlon). The mother of Hank’s teenage daughter, Karen van der Beek is a talented architect who can’t hide her frustration when it comes to Hank’s lack of will to say “no” to temptations, grow up and end his immature behavior. However, Karen recently left Los Angeles for a major project in New York. Can she trust Hank to care for their daughter in her absence?
